Government Identifies 30 Illegal Telecom Set-Ups for Routing ISD Calls
In India, 30 entities that were illegally forwarding ISD calls obtained through the internet to mobile and wireline users have been targeted by the Department of Telecommunications, in collaboration with telecom service providers and law enforcement agencies.
In contravention of regulations, illegal telecom setups typically link to domestic cell and landline networks on one side and employ internet access on the other. The government loses money as a result of such illegal setups and security risks.
In the past four months, 30 of these unlawful telecom set-ups have been discovered operating, according to a statement released by the Department of Transportation on Wednesday.
The Indian Telecommunication Bill, 2022's explanatory note stated that the Center thought India needed a legislative system that was in tune with the realities of the twenty-first century.
The explanatory note stated that 'the current regulatory framework for the telecommunication sector is based on the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885. The nature of telecommunication, its usage, and its technologies have undergone a massive change since the era of the 'telegraph,' which was abolished in 2013.

According to the announcement, the public is urged to inform the DoT phone centre of any such illicit establishments.
To allow the public to report incidents after receiving any foreign call using an Indian mobile or landline number, the government has established call centres with the numbers 1800110420 and 1963.
